My Wardrobe: The Perfect Guest

A perfect example of a weekend event is weddings. Weddings can be really fun- The food, drinks, music and possibility of finding the love of your life but then there's the major problem of - What to wear.

If you're in this category, fear not, I'm here to save the day. Most wedding guests choose to buy the fabric of the day which is a good thing because African prints are very rich and vibrant. But it's refreshing to brake away from the norm. Instead of wearing traditional clothes, there's the option of wearing something more western.
There's nothing more western than a jumpsuit. I decided to look very glam in a champagne gold pleated jumpsuit and a matching embellished clutch.

My Wardrobe: My First Outfit in 2017

I know this post sounds silly but I figured this look was post worthy because I happen to be wearing all my best outfits in 2016 on the first day of 2017. I swear it was totally unplanned. I wore this to a family lunch on New Year's Day.
I'm just going to bore you a little with short stories about each item. I wouldn't be cool if I just dumped the pictures on you. Now would it?

The Shirtdress- I got this from Nairobi when I had this impromptu interview and I didn't have what to wear. Finding the right dress under pressure is super stressful. I remember that day, I literally turned the store over before I found this one shirt dress and it wasn't love at first sight like my other dresses. It was somewhat like love at the 20th sight.

The Bag and Pom-Pom- No fantastic story behind this but I stole the bag from my mum at the end of the year and it became my best bag in 2016. The Pom-Pom keychain thingie was a gift from my younger sister. It's the cutest little thing every. I transfer it to almost every bag I own.

The Sandals: I got these beauties from GAFA. I've been obssessed ever since. I've literally styled them in every way possible.
For me, they're the perfect "casual with a statement" sandals.

That's about it. I know I might have over rocked these items in 2016 but I foresee them in my 2017- I mean, see me starting the year looking hellafine. Why shouldn't I continue wearing them?

Everyone has that one or more item they love and are not ashamed to over wear. These are mine. What are yours? It could be a bag, piece of jewellry, dress or shoe.  Let me know in the comments. Xoxo

My Wardrobe: The Perfect Soirée Outfit

Hey Hey! So this is officailly my first outfit post on 2017 but not my first outfit in 2017. I'll post that later. How's your 2017 going by the way? I heard some people are already hating theirs so if you're happy, I think you should be thankful.

The season is still very festive. A lot of soirées and shindigs here and there. There's nothing like stepping into a party and being a show stopper. The feeling is pure bliss. This should be your story. If you're wondering how, fear not- Seyi to the rescue.  I'll be giving an outfit idea and some styling tips for your next party.

The Outfit
I figured since it was a new year, it wouldn't be too far fetched to step into the new year in elegance.
I went with a black off-shoulder mesh top and a black  detailed slit skirt. For accesories, I went silver. If you read my blog, you should know by now that I'm a die hard fan of metals. I rocked them the whole of 2016 and I'm carrying that over to 2017.  I don't think you can ever go wrong with them. You can't be soirée redu without a statement. Hence, the pom-poms clipped to the bag.

This look is appropriate for a dinner/lunch outing, a classy formal get-together, it's church friendly when you clip it a couple of inches down and just right for any date (it has just enough "sexy but covered up" to tease your partner).

Styling Tips
• If you're looking to rock this look like I did, go easy on the accesories. The idea is to not draw attention away from the outfit.

• I can't but over emphasis the importance of self confidence. Expect this as a constant styling tip.

• Make sure you're comfortable in what you're wearing. If it doesn't feel right but looks right, change it untill it feels and looks right. It's enough that you're most likely going to engage in awkward conversations at a party. Why complicate things by feeling you look funny? Do ya feel me?

• Leave just enough to the imagination. There's a thin line between trendy and trashy when it comes to showing skin. If I uncliped the skirt a couple of inches up, I would look like a ... Let's not get into that ; )

I know you have a party coming up pretty soon. First, am I invited? If not, then I don't think that party should hold without me. Are you going to wear this and how? Finally, I wouldn't mind if you have styling tips you'll love to share. X

My Wardrobe: How To Spice Up Your Work Wear 2: Incorporating Colours

It's slowly getting to the end of the week and I'm excited. I can't wait for the weekend because it's CHRISTMAS!! whoop! Whoop! This post has been in my draft for some weeks now, and I figured the best time to post it would be at the beginning of another week to inspire you for the rest of the week.

Colours like every other thing have a substantial effect on our emotions and feelings. A lot of colours either cause stress, ease it, facilitate serenity, etc.
Conclusion, colours inite emotions.

From my last experience in the corporate world, I noticed that most work outfits are drab and dull. The clothes they wear is somewhat similar to what would be ideal for a funeral. How sad, right? Now there's nothing wrong with wearing dark colours to the office but there are ways of wearing black that actually brings light a bubbly personality rather  than make people reminisce sad times in their lives. Wear colours and brighten everyone's day at the office with your look.

Tips

You should know that these aren't rules. In fact, there are no rules. They're just a couple of things to consider if you have plans of working this style like a pro.

• Nothing wears a dress better than confidence. If you rock the colours like the queen that you are, nobody is going to question you or throw shade.

• Get in tune with your inner child and believe that every colour goes.

• Keep the look clean. What I mean is, look neat and smart. If you're going to be wearing this is a corporate environment, look a smart as possible. Iron your clothes. Keep it tucked in if need be.

• I chose to wear a belt to sort of ease the contrast. When I tried it on without the belt I looked like a hot mess but the belt just sort of made the transition between the two colour types a whole lot easier.

So, what are your thoughts about this look? Would you wear this to work? I don't know about you but I would.

My Wardrobe: Festive in Plaid

Merry Christmas everyone! It's really funny how it's December already. I can still remember  this time last year when I was in camp like it was a few weeks ago.
And 2017 is in less than 20 days! Am I the only one that finds it amazing? No?

Moving on
With the season comes parties, dinners and get togethers. What better way to end the year than slaying each event. This season is also the perfect time to wear plaid. Again, what better to wear this trend than wearing it casually. As it is, plaid is a busy print. Keeping every other thing simple is key. I simply went with this super cool "say Cheese" t-shirt (named by yours truly); nude heels and silver jewellry.

P.S: It's a wig. You know, just incase you were wondering.

It's funny how old clothes end up being what you need when you want new clothes. I've had this skirt for about 4 years but never worn it.  I actually forgot I owned it because I hated it. I saw it as "Mary Amaka". I rediscovered it when I was sorting out old clothes to give out. Look at how pretty and quirky it looks after styling it. *pats self on back for a job well done*

So, go through your closet. Dust those old clothes. Some might actually be useful.

My Wardrobe: How To Spice Up Your Work Wear 1: Funky Accessories

Ola babies! I know what you're thinking, "This girl just likes to change the look of her blog". Well, I decided it's something I would be doing on a yearly basis. Just to give each new blogging year a new feel. So, do you like it? I'm not done by the way. There still needs to be a couple of tweaks here and there but it should be perfect before the year runs out. Let me know what you think in the comment. Pretty please?

Down to the original topic. Have you ever felt like your work wear was a tad too serious? I'm pretty sure you don't like it. No one likes uninteresting clothes.  I have just the solution to that problem.
Before we get back to the topic, you might be wondering why this topic. Well, has been proven by Harvard psychology researchers that clothes affect your mood, emotions, mindset and so much more.
To be honest, I don't need any scientist to prove to me that this is in fact, the truth.

The Spices and how they work.
Accesories: Forever in style, accesorising is the easiest way to take your work wear to the next level.

• Try switching up your shoes from the basic court shoes to pumps or a peep toe. Also be like me, try animal skin but in earthy tones.

• Be funky or Edgy with your bag. Sure you're not going to be walking around with the bag but let your entrance and exit be grand. Girl, you're a Queen and everywhere is your kingdom.

• Your love for accesories should be turned down a notch when it comes to work wear. Tread the path of the minalist.  It's not a fashion parade. An added advantage is that the lesser the accesories the more efficient you are.

• As a woman, your hair is also an accessory and like any other accessory, it can either upgrade or degrade your overall look. For work, keep it neat and simple. If you're going to accesories your accessory (your hair,  I mean) keep it simple and elegant. Work with small hair pieces and stick to metals: gold, silver, bronze and neutral colours: black, white and nude.

My Wardrobe: Denim and Floral Swirl

*clears cobwebs*
Long time no blog...As usual. I could roll off my tongue a hundred reasons why I haven't updated my blog but let's face it, there's really nothing like having no time. So forgive me? Pretty please?

I just concluded my NYSC and as you all know, the experience was amazing till the very end with the help of God and the equally amazing people He made me meet. I got to do the things I love: traveling, trying new things, meeting new people, taking risks and the list goes on. I'm back now and can't wait to establish a day-to-day routine. This is something I'm in dire of otherwise I'll spend most of my time eating and sleeping.

Down to the outfit
Denim and floral prints are a staple in any female wardrobe, Yes? Reason being that both items are effortlessly chic. Like you don't even have to try too hard. Imagine this: a chiffon blouse and a pair of jeans; a denim dress or jacket or shirt- definitely chic; a maxi floral dress, a short pleated floral skirt, etc. All of these would look amazing without putting in too much effort.

Another fun fact is that there are no rules in style. Especially when it comes to personal style. You can play around and have fun with the prints and texture of clothes- no one's judging.

I went with an oversized denim shirt and winter floral dress worn as a skirt. I like the gray base of the material and how the yellow flowers make the outfit pop. It's a fall floral print with all the "upbeatness" of a summer floral print. This is because of the yellow flowers. For my shoes, I went with a pair of gladiators. You know, to make a much needed fashion statement.

The thing is, most times, just trying a little is all you need. Take this outfit for instance. Individually, both items seem rather bland but after putting them together, BOOM.

Tips To Go:
~ Make a statement. Try rocking contrasting colours with this trend. For instance, a denim jacket and a red dress.

~ Go buck-wild crazy with your creativity. Is not about the clothes it's about carriage and confidence. Rihanna could wear a bean sack, that's if she hasn't already, and still look red carpet ready in it.

~ if you're going to go all out with your outfit, keep the accesories minimal. Draw the attention of your audience (it's a stage baby) to the right place.

My Wardrobe: Grunge Inspired

My first encounter with grunge style was on Instagram through one of my followers. I loved the vibe she was giving (her clothers, captions, lifestyle, et al.) and her bio said "grunge enthusiast" so I wanted to know what grunge was so started my research.

From my findings, I discovered that grunge was an 80's / 90's look associated with grunge rock music. Apparently, the artists in this gernre of music used to dress a certain way. This made their followers follow en suite. Grunge style is sort of laid back and carefree just like the art. As the music spread so did the style and just as the music faded so did the style but get this, the stlye didn't totally fade it just mellowed and is still trending but in a very diluted version. In the following paragraph(s), I'll drop a few tips on how to dress grunge. You'll notice that everyone has a little bit of grunge in them.

How To Dress Grunge

1.) Ripped/Frayed jeans: No grunge look is complete without a pair of ripped jeans. The jeans can be frayed anywhere. It doesn't matter as long as it looks worn or slightly faded.

2.) T-shirts: This got incorporated into the  style because most of the people who dressed grunge represented a rock band that they loved. Everyone has a t-shirt and what better way to rock them than with a pair of ripped jeans.

3.) Flannels: Another thing about this style is layering. So investing in flannels and denim jackets is not too out of place here.
4.) Sneakers: Need I explain why this is necessary? I would anyways for the sake of others. From the previous tips and facts about grunge style, you must have observed that it's laid back and whatnot.  To me, the comfiest shoes are sneakers. To be honest, I'm pretty sure true grungers would cringe at the thought of wearing stilettos or pumps.

5.) Unkempt hair: Optional. It really depends on what you're cool with.

6.) Minimal Jewellery: When it comes to grunge style, we try to take the use of jewellry down a lot of notches. It's best to go with a leather or beaded bracelet, rings or a necklace. Nothing to make much of a statement.

This is my first time trying this stlye and I have to say, I liked it. It's way too comfortable.  So if you're into laid back effortless fashion, the best way to express your "laid-backness" is with grunge style.
